Active Vital Signs: secure data-infrastructure for tomorrows healthcare
The Active Vital Signs project is developing a central, scalable data infrastructure that allows health data to be securely combined, analyzed, and reused, fully in line with new legislation.
From 2026 onwards, European legislation surrounding the European Health Data Space (EHDS) will require organizations that manage health data to share it securely with researchers and other parties. With the Active Vital Signs project, Radboudumc & Radboud University (OnePlanet Research Center), anDREa, Orikami, and Wijtz are developing a central, scalable data infrastructure that enables health data to be securely combined, analyzed, and reused, fully in line with this new legislation.
The infrastructure brings together five components: a reliable data source, a pseudonymization service, a secure gateway (developed within OnePlanet Research Center), a secure working environment, and an automated certification process for medical algorithms (as part of the Orikami KRANE™ platform). By making these components work together seamlessly, hospitals, researchers, and companies will soon be able to develop, test, and apply new healthcare solutions faster and more securely.
The project not only contributes to meeting legal obligations, but also to economic growth in the region. This positions Gelderland to grow into a national hub for health data innovation, with export opportunities to the rest of Europe.
